What’s the Story?

Sincerely tho, I genuinely want to know your story!

Look, here's a hard truth…
People don't trust brands or businesses anymore. There is more information out there, than ever before on how to market and sell - freely accessible to the public. It's because of that, people know when you are marketing to them.

They know if you're talking about a past customer or client, that you are showcasing social proof. They know that if you are talking about a solution your product offers, you are solution selling to them.

People can smell marketing from a mile away.

So how do we market without it feeling like marketing?

The best way to do this… is by storytelling.

I know, last year it seemed like people were done with storytelling. They were done with the fluff and wanted you to cut to the chase. The truth is…storytelling has been ingrained in humanity from the beginning. It's how we have passed down history. It's how we have taught lessons. It's how we connect. People crave a good story.

I mean… no one is putting their kids to sleep with data (Unless that's your thing… no judgment!)

What are the Top 3 things you can do to start storytelling?

  1. Know your brand story. This is your foundation! It's woven through your identity, messaging, content… literally everything your customers interact with. It gives all your marketing efforts purpose and intent. The better you are able to tell your story, the deeper the connection on all touchpoint your audience will interact with your business.

  2. Get in front of a camera. People connect with people, not “brands” or businesses. Faceless marketing is not doing it anymore and the data is showing it. Audiences are genuinely craving authenticity and the people behind the brand. It's a tribal connection.

  3. Show up for your community. Engaging with your audience is going to go further than a new Linkedin or Instagram post. Make polls or have a live QA - show up so you can actually have real-time dialogue with your people. There is a reason face-to-face networking is so powerful, do it with your audience.

Bonus tip and the most important…

Be consistent. Show up and don't be fancy.  Less is more!
